Bible Bedtime Stories – The Good Samaritan
Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan is so well known that all around the world today, even in other cultures and religions, the words “Good Samaritan” have a specific meaning and everyone understands it is about helping others in need. But in Jesus’ time the “hero” of the story was actually depicted as coming from a group of people especially avoided and despised by the Jews – giving it a deeper meaning and making it undoubtedly a major talking point! I have taught this parable many times to children in many different cultures and always try to adapt it to their local situation and cultural background. Here we have adapted this story to be especially suitable for small children, and we have also tried to choose the characters to represent modern day equivalents – hopefully provoking interesting discussion within the family too!
